PM Oli affirms commitment to impartial corruption investigation
Prime Minister KP Oli has pledged the government’s commitment to impartial and independent investigations into allegations of corruption and illicit wealth accumulation. During a direct question-and-answer session with MPs in today’s House of Representatives meeting, Prime Minister Oli addressed the issues faced by savers in the cooperative sector. He assured that the government is dedicated to implementing the recommendations made by the task force previously formed to address these problems.
Chet Narayan Acharya becomes Lumbini Chief Minister
Chet Narayan Acharya, the Deputy Leader of the CPN-UML Parliamentary Party in Lumbini province, has been appointed as the Chief Minister. Province Chief Amik Sherchan appointed Acharya on Monday under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. This appointment follows the resignation of Chief Minister Jokh Bahadur Mahara on Sunday.
Maoist Center ministers resign from Karnali Province govt
Ministers from the Maoist Center in the Karnali Province government have tendered their resignations, marking a significant political development. The four ministers in the Karnali Province government representing the Maoist Center included Mahendra KC, Bir Bahadur Shahi, Ransingh Pariyar, and Durga Bahadur Rawat. Following recent changes in the political landscape at the central level, Maoist Center ministers in the Karnali Province government opted to step down.
PM Oli informs House of progress on Mahakali corridor
Prime Minister KP Oli has apprised the House of the progress made in the development of Tusharpani-Koteghar-Tinker section under the Mahakali Corridor Road Project. As he said, the section has the presence of 80 percent of hard rocks and the Nepal Army is working on it. The use of explosive devices is expected to shorten the time for completing the work, he added. During a direct questionnaire session with lawmakers in a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, the Prime Minister assured of budget allocations to projects being undertaken by the Nepal Army.
NEPSE sees minor gain, trading volume nears Rs 14 billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a slight increase on Monday. The market, which has been in a continuous bull trend, showed significant volatility today, leading to a minor correction. NEPSE rose by 2.15 points, reaching 2488.09 points. Despite the overall increase, the Sensitive Index, Float Index, and Sensitive Float Index saw declines.
Binod Chaudhary dubs Lamichhane’s speech “misleading”
Lawmaker and businessman Binod Chaudhary has expressed concern over remarks made by Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Rabi Lamichhane during Sunday’s House of Representatives session. In a statement on social media on Monday, Chaudhary said, “A lawmaker delivered a carefully planned yet misleading speech, clearly aimed at misleading the public by targeting me.” “I strongly disagree with these assertions. The manner in which someone with a controversial past and ongoing state investigation expressed dissatisfaction in a dignified setting like Parliament can only be seen as political grandstanding,” Chaudhary emphasized.
222 animals rescued at CNP; 76 dead in one year
As many as 76 wild animals of 15 species died at the Chitwan National Park (CNP) in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS. Most of them were spotted deer. According to Information Officer at CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, two spotted deer were killed by dogs and 22 others died due to natural causes in the last fiscal year. Similarly, 21 rhinos died in the same period. As informed, 18 among them had died due to natural causes, two were killed by poachers and death of one has yet to be ascertained. Likewise, eight tigers had died due to natural causes.
Road accidents: 97 accidents daily, 7 lives lost on average
Nepal faces a staggering average of 97 vehicle accidents per day, resulting in an average of seven fatalities and 88 injuries daily, according to Nepal Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki. The country witnessed 35,404 vehicle accidents, claiming 2,368 lives and leaving 6,160 seriously injured, with an additional 25,996 sustaining minor injuries in the last fiscal year (2023/024). Shockingly, 101 animals also lost their lives in these tragic incidents.
