Private medical colleges, govt. hospitals directed to make service fees public

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has asked the private medical colleges and government hospitals to release the details of their service fees.

In a circular made by the Ministry, private medical colleges and government hospitals have been asked to release details of the fees on their websites or in an accessible way so that the service seekers would get information about the services.

The Ministry has told the health care institutions to share the information about the surgery fees, types of all beds available as well as the fees for radiology service and lab tests.

Likewise, the hospitals should release the details about the fees for tickets and other services.

The Ministry has taken this step as complaints were received for higher fees charged to service recipients.

The Quality Measurement and Regulation Division of the Ministry wrote the letter to the private medical colleges and government hospitals after Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel directed the officials to ensure transparency in the fees charged by the health care institutions.

The ministry is also preparing to monitor whether the details were released after the circulation.

The health care institutions will be fined if they are found charging higher or not making their fees public, it is said.
