Bank account with a deposit of Rs 5,000 gifted to 256 daughters in Hupsekot

NAWALPASARI: Hupsekot Rural Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has said that it has so far opened bank accounts with a deposit of Rs 5,000 in the name of 256 daughters.

As part of its ‘Golden Future of Our Daughters’ programme, Hupsekot rural municipality has deposited the amount to the bank accounts opened in the name of daughters.

The programme that was launched in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS had started depositing money in the bank accounts of girls born in the rural municipality.

Chair of Hupsekot rural municipality, Laxmi Devi Pandey informed that Rs 1.28 million has been deposited to such bank accounts so far.

“The amount has been deposited to the bank accounts of 38 girls in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS, 59 in the year 2078/79; 97 in 2079/80 and 62 in 2080/81”, she shared.

“After birth registration at the ward office, we have made arrangements to open a bank account in the name of the girl child and deposit Rs 5,000 on part of the rural municipality and Rs 5,000 from the parent’s side”.

The guardian will be the custodian of the bank account opened in the name of the daughter.

Chair Pandey noted that the programme was launched with the expectation that the money will be used to provide higher education to the daughters.

“It is expected that the money deposited in the bank will develop the habit of saving for the golden future of the daughter and encourage her to enable her for further studies”, she mentioned.
