Lumbini Province Chief Minister Jokh Bahadur Mahara resigns

KATHMANDU: Jokh Bahadur Mahara, the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, resigned from his position on Sunday.

Following Mahara’s resignation, the CPN-UML is preparing to stake a claim to the Chief Minister’s post.

This move comes after the CPN-UML withdrew its support from the provincial government.

Mahara was scheduled to seek a vote of confidence today, but he announced his resignation after it became clear he would not secure enough votes.

In light of the CPN-UML’s withdrawal of support, and with the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML joining forces, Lila Giri, the parliamentary party leader of the UML, is set to become the next Chief Minister of Lumbini Province.
