PM Dahal pledges citizen-friendly budget, shifts from conventional approach

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has announced a departure from conventional practices in formulating policies, programs, and the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Speaking to the media at Dhangadhi Airport today, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to developing progressive, objective, and citizen-centric programs, policies, and budgets.

Corruption case filed against suspended executive director of Security Printing Center Poudel

Bikal Poudel, the suspended executive director of Security Printing Center, is now embroiled in a corruption case filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The CIAA has brought forward charges against Poudel at the Special Court, alleging that he fraudulently obtained permanent residency in the United States while holding a public position, based on false information. Furthermore, Poudel is already under investigation for corruption during his tenure at the Security Printing Press.

UML Chair Oli leaves Representative Council meeting due to illness

CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli has left the party’s General Convention Representatives Council due to health issue. According to UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Oli had to leave the ongoing meeting of the Representatives Council owing to his poor health. After Oli took leave from the program due to illness, senior vice-chairman Pokharel took over the chairmanship and proceeded with the meeting.

JSP’s Minister Ahir steps down from position in Lumbini Province

Bhandari Lal Ahir, serving as the Minister of Agriculture and Land Management in Lumbini Province, has tendered his resignation. Ahir, the parliamentary party leader of Janata Samajbadi Party ,was elected from Banke Constituency-2(1).

Home Ministry issues alert for potential flood in Budhigandaki River

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an alert following a rise in the water level of the Budhigandaki River caused by an avalanche. This morning, an avalanche occurred in Birendratal, located at Chumanubri-1, Gorkha. Local residents reported the avalanche in the lake. Following the outburst of the lake, the water level in the Budhigandaki River has increased.

NEPSE witnesses two-digit rise on Sunday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has experienced a double-digit increase on Sunday, marking the beginning of the trading week. The NEPSE index surged by 12.29 points, reaching 1984.43 points today. A total of 6,393,245 shares from 310 companies were exchanged, resulting in a turnover of over 2.25 billion rupees.

Manaslu glacier’s Birendra Lake outburst in Gorkha district

The District Administration Office has reported an outburst of Birendra Lake, a freshwater lake situated in the Manaslu Glacier of Gorkha District, leading to a flash flood in the lower regions. While complete details and the extent of destruction caused by the flood are still being assessed, residents in the lower belt are urged to exercise caution.

UML fails to settle hotel loan in Bhojpur

In what can be dubbed as a peculiar situation, a hotel where CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli lodged, found itself tangled in a financial dispute. A notice purportedly from the CPN-UML District Committee Bhojpur, dated December 25, 2023, demanded overdue loan details from a local hotel. District President Sharan Kumar Rai and Finance Department Head Rama Devi Rai spearheaded the notice, urging stakeholders to disclose outstanding debts, including loans extended to the party. The notice stipulated a deadline of December 24, 2023, for settling debts relating to various amenities utilized by the UML district committee.

Finance Minister Barshaman Pun’s recent visit to the United States has yielded significant results, particularly in the realm of infrastructure development in Nepal. Minister Pun, who returned from his visit on Saturday, announced a pivotal agreement between Nepal and the World Bank regarding the financial structure of the 1,063 MW Upper Arun Hydropower Project in Sankhuwasabha.

SC to hear writ petition against appointment of Sudurpaschim CM on Monday

Laxman Chaudhary of the Nagarik Unmukti Party has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the appointment of Sudurpashchim’s Chief Minister. Laxman has demanded the dismissal of CPN-Unified Socialist Party’s Sudurpashchim parliamentary party leader Dirgha Sodari from the post of Chief Minister, arguing that the latter lacks majority support. Nagarik Unmukti’s Resham Chaudhary faction leader, Laxman, claimed majority support from lawmakers and demanded to be appointed as chief minister.
