KATHMANDU: The relatives of Nepali nationals who lost their lives while serving in the Russian Army have submitted their DNA samples to facilitate the identification of the deceased.
The family members of the fallen soldiers submitted their DNA samples at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj on Thursday.
Earlier, the Russian government had requested DNA samples to assist in identifying 15 Nepali nationals who perished in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The government summoned the family members of Jeet Bahadur Pun Magar and Abhishek Buda from Dang, Prem Prakash Neupane from Nawalparasi, Chandra Bahadur BC from Banke, Bijay Bahadur Thokar and Jitendra Bahadur Ghising from Makwanpur to provide their DNA samples.
Similarly, DNA samples were requested for Somesh Sunuwar and Bikash Rai from Pyuthan, Ghan Shyam Shahi from Morang, Prem Bahadur Kathayat from Accham, Khom Bahadur Bhujel from Okhaldunga, Bimal Kumar Gajmer from Dhanusha, Tika Bahadur Rana Magar from Terathum, and Bhim Bahadur BC from Khotang.
Currently, the government has sent eight out of the 15 DNA samples to Russia.
