2,380 drinking water schemes completed in Myagdi

MYAGDI: The Gorkha Welfare Trust said it has constructed 2,380 drinking water schemes in 51 districts of the country, including Myagdi.

Executive Director of the Trust, Deepak Kumar Shrestha said that over 61,000 taps were installed for smooth distribution of drinking water.

He claimed that around three percent of the total population of Nepal living in rural areas has access to drinking water with the financial assistance of the trust.

“A total of 2,380 drinking water schemes have been constructed in 51 districts”, he said, adding 61,634 taps and 431 toilets have been constructed in different parts.

The Trust has been delivering education, health, drinking water and sanitation related projects in Nepal since 1976.

Trust’s engineer Leela Sherchan shared 1,900 people have benefited from the drinking water schemes constructed at Khibang of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Patar of Ward-4, Dana Bazar, Duwadi and Kavre of Chemdi-3 in Myagdi.

According to him, the Trust has mobilized a resource amounting to Rs 24.1 million in the schemes.

In addition, Rs. 10,000 will be provided for the project to be implemented in Besi and Lekhgaon of Ward No. 4 Narchiang in the coming fiscal year.

The Trust will spend Rs 11.5 million, he added.
