Supreme Court orders release of Durga Prasai

The Supreme Court has ordered the release of Durga Prasai.

A joint bench comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi and Saranga Subedi issued the order for Prasai’s release.

The court’s decision came after hearing a writ of habeas corpus filed on behalf of Prasai, as confirmed by spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel.

Prasai had been charged by the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police for electronic crimes.

Preparations underway to convene Winter Session of Parliament in January first week

While the main opposition Maoist Center and other opposition parties express concerns, the ruling parties have confirmed that the government is preparing to convene the winter session of the federal parliament in the first week of January.

Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has warned that the opposition will demand a special session if the government fails to convene the session on time.

However, the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, are proceeding with plans to call the session through the regular process.

Foreign Minister urges Indian entrepreneurs to invest in Nepal

Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has called on Indian entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Nepal, particularly in sectors like energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, tourism, and information technology.

Her remarks came during the Indo-Nepal Economic Conference, which was organized by Kathmandu University and India’s Egrow Foundation in New Delhi today.

Rana stated that Nepal has liberalized its foreign investment policies, creating an environment conducive to high returns.

She noted that Nepal’s ‘Double B Minus’ (BB-) credit rating shows its potential as a destination for foreign investment, and the government has implemented incentive-based policies to attract investors.

Muglin-Naubise road to be closed for 3 hours a day for a week

The Muglin-Naubise road section along the Prithvi Highway will be partially closed for a week starting Sunday afternoon to allow for road improvements, including rock wall cutting at Pokharevhir and Bishaltar.

The road will be closed for three hours each day, from 11 am to 2 pm from December 22 to 28. The work is part of efforts to improve the road’s safety and accessibility.

Over 14,000 Nepali migrant workers have died in 15 years

Details released by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security reveal that 14,213 Nepalis have lost their lives while working abroad since the establishment of the Foreign Employment Board Secretariat in 2008.

These statistics were made public on the occasion of International Migrants Day, celebrated annually on December 18.

The Ministry is observing the day with a week-long series of programs from December 16 to 22, coordinated by Secretary Mukunda Prasad Niraula.

Gold price drops by Rs 500

The price of gold in Nepal fell by Rs 500 per tola on Friday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association, gold was traded at Rs 148,500 per tola, down from Rs 149,000 on Thursday.

Silver prices have also seen a decline. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 1,760 per tola, marking a slight decrease compared to previous rates.

Bangladesh beats Nepal to reach U-19 Asia Cup Final

Nepal’s hopes of reaching the final of the Women’s U-19 Asia Cup have been dashed following a 9-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the Super Four match today.

Nepal won the toss and chose to bat first, but the match was reduced to 11 overs per side due to rain.

Nepal struggled to build a strong total, with three batters unfortunately run out. Both openers, Sana Prabin and Savitri Dhami, were dismissed in this manner. Captain Pooja Mahato, one of the team’s key players, managed just 9 runs off 11 balls.

Survey of tigers and prey species begins in Banke National Park

A survey of tigers and their prey species has begun at Banke National Park. The survey aims to gather detailed information on the tiger population, their habitat, and the current situation within the park.

Chief Conservation Officer of the park, Birendra Kandel, mentioned that the survey would last approximately two months. Kandel also noted that after the Banke survey is completed, a similar study would be conducted in Bardiya National Park.
