Government decides on free treatment service to needy burn patients



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to treat burns free of cost for those unable to afford the treatment cost.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung informed about the government decision today while unveiling the decisions of the latest meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Free treatment facilities for burns shall be available at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Koshi Province, the Narayani Hospital in Madhesh Province, the Kirtipur Hospital in Bagamati Province, the Pokhara Academy of Health Science in Gandaki Province, the Bheri Hospital in Lumbini Province, the Surkhet Provincial Hospital in Karnali Province and the Seti Provincial Hospital in Sudurpaschim Province.

As per the estimations of the Ministry of Health, around 57 thousand people are affected by burns each year in Nepal. To date, treatment for burns is available in Kirtipur Hospital, TU Teaching Hospital, Patan Hospital, Sushma Memorial Hospital and Bir Hospital. The Bir Hospital reopened its burn unit a couple of months ago.
