Committee suggests expediting Tilganga Eye University Bill

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have suggested refining and expediting the Tilganga Eye University Bill.

During a meeting of the Legislative Management Committee of the National Assembly held in Singha Durbar today, committee members and experts emphasized the need to finalize the bill after addressing issues related to its structure, sustainability, and resource management.

They stressed establishing a high-quality university without compromising the specialized services and reputation of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology.

In the discussion, MP Krishna Prasad Sitaula called for the swift conclusion of the bill, citing its significance as a matter of national prestige.

He underscored the importance of developing the institute into a specialized university to enhance eye care services while ensuring alignment with government-operated institutions.

MP Narayan Kaji Shrestha highlighted the need to amend inconsistencies in the bill and position it as a specialized service provider.

He also stressed coordination with the National Medical Commission to ensure the university’s effective operation.

Several lawmakers, including Bhagwati Neupane, Kiran Babu Shrestha, Dr. Bedu Ram Bhusal, and others, called for measures to ensure the university operates smoothly without disruptions, focusing on its role as a specialized institution.

Former Secretary Madhav Paudel recommended maintaining the institute’s quality and reputation while aligning it with the standards and quotas set by the Medical Education Commission. He emphasized reducing legal complications and advancing the university’s concept effectively.
