Home Minister orders investigation into photo of Rabi Lamichhane in custody

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has ordered an investigation into the release of a photo showing Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane in police custody.

Lekhak has also directed that immediate action be taken against those responsible for the leak.

On Thursday, Minister Lekhak instructed Police Chief Basanta Bahadur Kunwar to probe the matter and ensure that those responsible are held accountable, regardless of their position.

The issue came to light on Wednesday evening when supporters of the Rastriya Swatantra Party shared a photo of Lamichhane inside a detention cell on social media.

In response, the Home Ministry issued a statement directing the police to verify the authenticity of the photo.

Minister Lekhak confirmed that he had instructed the police chief to investigate the incident and take prompt action against the culprits.

“I have directed the IGP to investigate this matter and bring those responsible to justice,” Minister Lekhak stated.

“The police are currently investigating the alleged photo of the individual in custody.”

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Bishwa Adhikari also confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the unauthorized release of the photo.
