PM and Finance Minister should intervene to rewrite ministry budgets: Ramesh Lekhak

Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak has called for a revision of ministry budgets, citing fundamental flaws in their allocation. Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building on Wednesday, Lekhak criticized the current budgetary allocations, stating that many ministers have irresponsibly diverted a significant portion of their ministry’s budget to their constituencies and districts.

Three officials of Parsa Land Revenue Office sentenced to 8 Years imprisonment and Rs 25 million fine

The Special Court has sentenced three section officers of the Parsa Land Revenue Office to eight years in prison and fined Rs 25 million each for corruption. In a verdict announced on Monday, the Special Court found the three officials guilty based on a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on November 6, 2023. The court has sentenced former Land Revenue Officers Harinarayan Mishra, Bhup Bahadur Bogati, and Computer Officer Kumod Bhandari to eight years in prison each.

Colonel Malla dismissed over age dispute

Colonel Direndra Kumar Malla has been dismissed by a military court due to an age-related controversy. The summary military general court announced the decision on Tuesday, leading to Malla’s dismissal. Nepali Army spokesperson and Brigadier General Gaurav Kumar KC confirmed the court’s decision. According to KC, the court ruled to dismiss Malla from service starting Tuesday, but he will not be deemed ineligible for future government service.

Dipendra Singh Airee climbs to sixth in T20 all-rounder rankings

Cricketer Dipendra Singh Airee has risen to sixth place in the ICC T20 all-rounder rankings. In the latest rankings released by the ICC, Dipendra moved up three spots to secure the sixth position, thanks to his performance in the recent T20 World Cup. Australia’s Marcus Stoinis is at the top of the T20 all-rounder rankings, having overtaken Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, who has dropped to fourth place. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan is in second place, moving up from fourth, while Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza holds the fifth position.

NC schedules parliamentary party meeting for Friday

The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has called for a meeting of its parliamentary party. The meeting is scheduled for Friday at 3 pm at Lhotse Hall, located in the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar. Before this, the parliamentary party’s executive committee will convene at 2 pm.

Farmers protest before DDC headquarters over unpaid dues, police intervene

Officials and members of milk cooperative associations surrounded the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) headquarters in Lainchaur on Wednesday, protesting against unpaid dues amounting to billions of rupees. For the second time, the protesters attempted to encircle the central office of the DDC but were stopped by police. The police detained union officials and activists who had gathered to demonstrate.

SEE results to be published under Letter Grading Guideline

The National Examination Board (NEB) is set to announce the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE 2080) by the last week of June. Starting this year, the results will be publicized under the Letter Grading Guideline of 2078, which distinguishes between theoretical and internal assessments. According to the guidelines, students must achieve a minimum of 35 percent marks in each subject in theory, equating to at least 26.25 marks out of 75.

NEPSE sees modest gain with transactions nearing Rs 3.5 billion on Wednesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a modest increase by the end of Wednesday’s trading session, closing up by 1.27 points at 2078.76 points. Today’s trading volume was approximately Rs 3.5 billion, with 7,209,757 shares exchanged, amounting to Rs 3.404 billion. In today’s session, the share prices of 135 companies increased, while 104 companies saw a decline in their share prices. The share prices of 8 companies remained unchanged.

Half of HoR seats empty during budget debate

The Appropriation Bill-2081 continues to be debated focusing on various ministries. During the discussion on ministry-wise allocations under the Appropriation Bill, the House of Representatives witnessed alarmingly low attendance among parliamentarians. Photos from Wednesday’s session reveal more than half of the seats in the House of Representatives were vacant, despite the critical nature of budget discussions.

Landslides displace 81 families in Taplejung

The monsoon rains in Taplejung have led to a dire situation, displacing 342 people from 81 households due to landslides. Five lives have been lost in a week, according to Chief District Officer Rabindra Prasad Acharya. Acharya stated that eight houses were destroyed, with 18 more facing imminent danger.

Gold traded at Rs. 142,200 per tola today

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold is fixed at Rs 142,200 per tola, while standard gold is traded at Rs 141,500 per tola. Appointment process for SEBON Chair to continue despite three candidates’ boycott

The appointment process for the chairperson of the Nepal Securities Board (SEBON) will continue despite three shortlisted candidates boycotting the interview for the second time. The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs advised that the process cannot be halted, allowing the recommendation committee to proceed with the appointment. On Sunday, the recommendation committee had invited five shortlisted candidates for interviews and presentations. Of the five shortlisted candidates, only Santosh Narayan Shrestha and SEBON Executive Director Mukti Shrestha participated.
