Rabi Lamichhane strikes back at Gagan Thapa in Parliament

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane spoke of retaliation against the General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, during Sunday’s meeting of the the House of Representatives. This follows allegations of cooperative fraud leveled against Lamichhane. Nepali Congress has now positioned Gagan Thapa against Lamichhane, despite their previously close relationship.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has claimed that the Nepali Congress has targeted him because he refused their offer to become Prime Minister for one and a half years. Addressing the House of Representatives on Sunday, Lamichhane expressed his grievance that his refusal of the Congress’s proposal led to the prevalent level of opposition against him.

NVC conducts surprise check at four ministries, finds 16 truants, 78 latecomers

The National Vigilance Centre (NVC) conducted a surprise visit at four ministries in the Singha Durbar premises, which found 16 employees absent while 78 coming late in the offices. The NVC conducted a monitoring of the employees at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply; and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The employees were monitored whether they adhered to the dress code and followed office time. Information officer at NVC, Hari Prasad Sharma, informed that seven employees were absent at Education Ministry while nine at Home Ministry.

Drought threatens wildlife in Chitwan National Park as water sources dry up

The wildlife in Chitwan National Park (CNP) is facing severe challenges as water sources dry up due to an ongoing drought. CNP Information Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari reported that the water levels in the park’s 134 lakes and ponds are receding rapidly, creating difficulties for the animals. According to Tiwari, the levels of water in wetlands, rivers, streams, and both natural and man-made water bodies inside the park have significantly decreased compared to the same period last year.

JSP Chair Yadav moves SC seeking stay order against PM Dahal’s vote of confidence proposal

Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court (SC) demanding a halt to the vote of confidence motion announced by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in parliament. Previously, the SC had issued an order to maintain the party’s registration process amidst the ongoing dispute within the JSP over its division. Taking cue from this order, Chairman Yadav has filed a writ petition at the SC. Yadav led the JSP Nepal after its division on May 5.

NEPSE gains 45.69 points on Sunday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a 2.26% increase on Sunday, marking the first trading day of the week. Compared to the previous trading day, the NEPSE index has risen by 45.69 points, reaching 2064 points. The trading volume has also seen a significant increase. While the trading volume was Rs. 4.23 billion in the previous session, it reached Rs. 5.25 billion on Sunday. All sectoral indices have shown upward trends.

RPP calls central committee meeting in Kathmandu

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has summoned its central committee meeting for May 24-26. According to RPP sources, the central meeting will feature intense discussions on various issues including the declaration of a Hindu nation, the demand for the revocation of federalism, and assessing the progress made in activating party committees and addressing internal conflicts within the party. RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden and General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana are scheduled to present political and organizational reports, respectively.
