KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) directed the government and the Home Ministry to coordinate with District Administration Offices for the movement of candidates and voters in the National Assembly election on January 25.
The government is tasked with ensuring security along routes to polling stations and residential areas of Provincial Assembly members, rural municipality chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, mayors, and deputy mayors.
Out of 20 National Assembly seats to be vacant from March 3, elections for 19 seats are scheduled for January 25.
The EC issued directives based on the recommendations of the High-Level Election Security Committee, anticipating security challenges.
Election offices are established in Morang, Dhanusha, Makawanpur, Dang, Surkhet, and Kailali, and the election code of conduct has been in effect since January 16.
Through the Government of Nepal and the Home Ministry, the EC instructed security bodies to ensure effective election security, activate District Election Security Committees, and provide details after necessary supervision during the implementation of the election code of conduct.
