Parliament Secretariat prohibits support from NGOs/INGOs

KATHMANDU: The Federal Parliament Secretariat has directed parliamentary committees not to receive any support or sponsorship from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) without prior official permission.

This directive follows the adjournment of a recent meeting of the Committee for State Affairs and Good Governance under the House of Representatives (HoR) when NGO representatives attended the meeting with breakfast and lunch sponsored by their organization.

The Secretariat, issuing a notice under the instruction of HoR Speaker Devraj Ghimire and National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, alerted all parliamentary committees and their secretaries to this issue.

The notice, issued by Secretariat General-Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey, states, “Although the Secretariat has been alerting parliamentary committees about some NGOs extending support and organizing programs involving lawmakers without official approval, thereby influencing the lawmaking and decision-making process, complaints about such activities persist.”

“Hence, the Secretariat would like to draw the attention of the parliamentary committees to this issue once again,” the notice concludes.
