PM Oli advocates for dialogue to resolve teachers’ issues

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized the need for resolving issues related to teachers through dialogue during the 23rd National Council meeting of the Nepal National Teachers’ Association held today.

PM Oli acknowledged the significant role teachers have played in educating students and contributing to various political changes in the country.

He stated, “Teachers’ problems should be addressed through mutual dialogue. The government should neither oppress teachers nor any citizen.”

He criticized previous governments for pressuring teachers and accusing them of politicization.

The Prime Minister urged teachers to confidently engage in teaching and learning activities while contributing to social awareness, noting that the situation has improved.

He assured that the current government is prepared to revise and update legislation and policies related to education and educational staff as necessary.

Reflecting on past attempts to separate teachers from politics, Oli remarked, “Those who did not understand the role of teachers and politics tried to impose one-sided oppression. They even sought to tarnish teachers by declaring their separation from politics. All those efforts were misguided.”

PM Oli, who also chairs the CPN (UML), asserted that teachers should play a crucial role in societal reforms, reaffirming that the government has no reason to be hostile towards them.

“Since the time of Aristotle and Plato, it has been clear that man is a political animal. It is sufficient if teachers fulfill their duties and responsibilities with integrity,” he concluded.
