Victims of conflict during Maoist-led war should receive compensation: Biplav

KATHMANDU: General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party, Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav,’ has asserted that those victimized by the state during the CPN-Maoist-led People’s War should also receive compensation.

Addressing a program organized by the families of the disappeared on Monday, he stated that he had met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and demanded compensation for martyrs, the injured, the families of the disappeared, and all citizens harmed by the state during the conflict.

He mentioned that it is still not difficult to identify the real victims of the People’s War when visiting various villages.

“I told the Prime Minister directly that the people should now receive compensation. The sacrifices have been made. In terms of physical calamity, familial loss, and the crises in their lives, millions of people were victimized by the state during the great process of the People’s War. This has not been accounted for yet, but now it is time to address it,” Biplav said.

He claimed that settlements like Thawang in Rolpa still bear the traces of the woes of the conflict and should be addressed by the state.

He stated that Prime Minister Dahal has not neglected the disappeared and their families.

“I do not deny that the Maoists have raised the issue. I do not say that Comrade Prachanda has neglected the disappeared. But the reality is that he has not been able to address their issues. That is the reality,” he added.
