KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of the possibility of excessive heat, as it is unlikely that the monsoon will become active in the central and western parts of the Tarai until June 21.

In a special weather bulletin issued today, the Department has called for precautionary measures and preparedness to protect against possible hot winds and heat waves.

Meteorologist Saroj Pudasaini from the Meteorological Forecasting Division stated that there is a possibility of excessive heat in some areas of the Tarai region in Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces due to the monsoon not being fully active.

“The monsoon has already become active in the eastern region of the country. A heat wave-like situation will prevail in the western region until June 21, as the monsoon wind blowing towards the west from the east is not active,” he said.
