Three arrested with counterfeit currency

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Police have arrested three individuals allegedly involved in circulating counterfeit currency in Kathmandu.

According to police, three accused including Karan Pradhan residing in Godawari Municipality-3 Tokha, Sanjay Adhikari residing in Mandandeupur, Kavre and Sabin Humagain residing in Bethanchowk, Kavre on charges of printing and dealing with counterfeit currency.

The arrests were made public during a press conference held on Sunday at the Lalitpur District Police Office, where it was revealed that the trio was involved in printing counterfeit notes and engaging in related transactions.

Following information about transactions involving counterfeit notes, Karan Pradhan was apprehended with 20 fake notes of one thousand rupees each.

Subsequently, Sanjay Adhikari was also found linked to the case during interrogation, leading to the recovery of 115 fake notes of one thousand rupees each.

Further investigation revealed Sabin Humagain’s involvement in the production and distribution of counterfeit currency, resulting in the seizure of 169 fake notes of one thousand rupees and one fake note of five hundred rupees from his mobile shop.

According to SSP Shekhar Khanal, Chief of the Lalitpur District Police Office, the arrested confessed to printing counterfeit notes using printers, plain paper, and other equipment seized from various locations.

The Lalitpur Police Office has informed that the three individuals arrested in connection with currency-related offenses will face extended detention for further investigation.
