KATHMANDU: The ‘Mundum International Art Exhibition,’ organized by Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality of Khotang district, has begun in Kathmandu.
President Ramchendra Paudel inaugurated the expo at Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal.
During the event, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, expressed the belief that such international expos would contribute to promoting sustainable tourism development.
“Nepal is rich in nature and culture. Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality has successfully introduced the natural and cultural heritages of Khotang district through paintings. This initiative will contribute to sustainable tourism development based on nature and culture,” he mentioned.
Approximately 200 paintings from artists representing 50 countries are on display in the exhibition.
Mayor Tirtha Raj Bhattarai stated that the expo was organized with the aim of promoting tourism by developing the geographical, religious, cultural, and tourism sectors of the municipality.
He expressed confidence that the expo would contribute to social upliftment.
The expo is scheduled to run until February 29.
A total of 43 painters, including 19 foreigners, created 109 live paintings from October 4-8, 2023, to promote local cultural, religious, and tourism areas by visiting different places in the district.
The organizers anticipate around 1,000 visitors daily during the expo.
