PM Dahal departing for Uganda tomorrow to attend 19th NAM Summit
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is leaving Kathmandu for Uganda leading Nepali delegation on January 18. The visit is aimed at attending the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit to be held in Kampala of Uganda in January 19-20. The PM will board the Qatar Airlines’ 2:15 am flight for Uganda, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
NEPSE experiences correction, closes at 2163.06 points on Wednesday
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) underwent a correction after a recent surge of 86 points over the last two trading days, leading active investors to book profits. NEPSE, which reached 2215 points at 12:57 pm, closed at 2163.06 points, marking a decline of 0.55 percent compared to Tuesday’s points. This reflects a decrease of 12.10 points on the day. The market recorded a share transaction worth NPR 9.76 billion, surpassing Tuesday’s NPR 8.2 billion.
EC releases sample ballot paper for NA elections
The Election Commission (EC) has publicly released the sample ballot for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25, on Wednesday. The Commission published the sample ballot on its website, categorizing them based on provinces. Mayors, deputy mayors, and chairpersons-vice-chairpersons will cast their votes using a red-colored ballot, while members of the Provincial Assembly will use a green-colored ballot.
Complaint filed against GB Rai and Rabi Lamichhane at Cooperative Department
A complaint was lodged on Wednesday against GB Rai, the Chairman of Gorkha Media Group, and Rabi Lamichhane, former Managing Director of the company and Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), at the Cooperative Department. Yubraj Safal, the complainant, has raised concerns over the alleged misuse of cooperative finances by Rai and Lamichhane, alleging violations of established laws. The complaint calls for a comprehensive investigation into the matter and urges appropriate legal actions against the individuals involved.
ADB and Nepal sign $160 million loan and $600,000 grant agreement
The Government of Nepal and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed an agreement for a concessional loan of $160 million and a grant of $600,000. The agreement, pertaining to the Urban Resilience and Livability Improvement Project, was signed on Wednesday at the Ministry of Finance by Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Krishna Hari Puskar and ADB’s Country Director for Nepal Arnaud Cauchois.
Bank deposits reach Rs 6.1 trillion; borrowings increase Rs 22 billion in 4 days
The total deposits in banks and financial institutions have reached Rs 6.1 trillion. As per the latest data made public by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) until January 12, 2024, the collective deposit of banks and financial institutions has amounted to NPR 6.105 trillion. This deposit figure was at Rs 6.085 trillion on January 8. Therefore, in the last four days, the deposits in banks have increased by NPR 20 billion.
