KATHMANDU: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed an agreement to collaborate on sustainable development, private sector capacity building, and climate change adaptation.

The agreement was signed by NCC President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal and UNDP Acting Resident Representative Julien Chevillard during a program held at the Chamber building in Jamal.

According to a press release issued by the NCC, the collaboration will focus on strengthening the private sector’s capacity, managing disaster risks, and achieving UNDP’s development goals.

A key aspect of the agreement includes community capacity building to address natural disasters, alongside efforts to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The cooperation aims to reduce risks and boost resilience against potential disasters.

Speaking at the event, Agrawal highlighted the importance of this collaboration for enhancing the private sector’s preparedness and response to disasters. He mentioned the key role of the partnership in building resilience and promoting sustainable economic growth.

UNDP’s Julien Chevillard expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, noting Nepal’s vulnerability to climate change. He stressed that working with the private sector is crucial to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and preventing natural disasters.

Chevillard also pointed out that developing the private sector’s efficiency will help stimulate broader economic activity in the country.

Both parties committed to continuing their collaboration to address climate challenges and protect Nepal’s natural resources, including its mountains.

The agreement is set to be implemented immediately.
