Nepali and Chinese parliamentary delegations meet in Geneva



KATHMANDU: The Nepali and Chinese parliamentary delegations which are in Geneva, Switzerland in connection with attending the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held a meeting on Tuesday.

The Nepali parliamentary delegation is led by National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal and the Chinese delegation is headed by Thyan Suizhan, Vice-Chairman of the Education, Science, Culture and Health Committee of the Chinese People’s Congress.

During the meeting, the two delegations discussed Nepal-China bilateral relations, parliamentary practices, experience sharing and collaboration in international forums, among other topics, Chairman Dahal’s Secretariat stated.

On the occasion, Chairman Dahal, dwelling on the historical dimension of Nepal-China ties, made it clear that Nepal would always remain as China’s good neighbour. He said, not only political relations, both countries enjoyed a strong social and cultural ties at the people’s level as well.

According to him, the collaboration between the parliaments of both countries has provided the opportunity to share each other’s experiences as well as to learn from each other’s best practices.

He also recalled the visit of the then Chair of the Chinese People’s Congress to Nepal in 2022.

In the meeting, the head of the Chinese delegation and Vice- Chair of the Committee expressed the willingness to collaborate in different fields between the Chinese National People’s Congress and Nepal’s parliament and to expand the ties through the Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Stating that China will not leave any stone unturned to extend support to Nepal as far as permitted by its capacity, the Vice-Chair Suizhan said China is willing to provide assistance in the infrastructure development projects as roadway, railway, among others, through the BRI.

Lawmakers and representatives included in the delegations of both countries were present during the meeting.
