SOLUKHUMBU: A devastating flood in the Dudhkoshi River swept away a person, along with a dozen houses and public buildings, in the Khumbu region on Friday afternoon.

The identity of the missing individual has yet to be confirmed, according to police reports.

The flood, which struck Thame in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5, resulted in the destruction of six houses, five hotels, a school, and a clinic, as reported by the District Police Office.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Prasad Ghimire stated that seven additional houses in the area are now at high risk due to the flooding.

Both Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel have been mobilized to the disaster site, and the floodwaters are now receding.

DSP Ghimire speculated that the flood was likely caused by a glacial lake outburst above the Thame area, as there was no rainfall prior to the sudden deluge.

An investigation into the cause of the flood is currently underway.
