Gatthaghar Accident: Govt to take action against those attacking traffic police

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take serious action and thoroughly investigate the Gatthaghar accident.

The incident occurred on Thursday when a truck (Na 6 Kha 2173) struck a scooter (Ba 49 Pa 8944), dragging it for approximately 100 meters and severely mutilating the rider.

The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Uttam Koirala from Okhaldhunga.

The truck driver, Satendra Shrestha, 32, of Malangwa Municipality-2, fled the scene but was later arrested and is currently being held at the Police Circle in Thimi.

Following the accident, locals staged a protest and a clash erupted between security personnel and local people.

Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, Roshni Kumari Shrestha, confirmed that an investigation committee will be formed to probe the incident, following the Home Minister’s orders.
