Rabi Lamichhane inspects search operation for missing bus and passengers in Simaltal

KATHMANDU: Outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane inspected the ongoing search operation for the missing bus and passengers in Simaltal.

On Tuesday morning, Lamichhane visited the incident site to gather details and oversee the rescue operations.

Security personnel informed him that while they possess adequate skills for the rescue efforts, they still face a shortage of resources and equipment.

Lamichhane stated that he would inform the current Home Minister about the situation in Simaltal.

He noted that despite the unexpected nature of the Simaltal incident, the damages in other areas were minimized due to pre-disaster preparedness.

However, he acknowledged that the measures taken were still insufficient.

In Simaltal, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29 of Chitwan, a landslide, accompanied by debris, swept away two buses into the Trishuli River.

Of the 65 passengers, 15 bodies have been recovered so far.

On the morning of July 12, a landslide swept away a bus (Bagmati Province 03-006 Kha 1516) traveling from Birgunj to Kathmandu and another bus (Bagmati Province 03-001 Kha 2459) traveling from Kathmandu to Gaur.
