Budget’s provisions facilitate tax evasion for certain business groups: Dr. Arzu Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has raised questions regarding the tax provisions in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget presented in Parliament.

Speaking during a discussion in the House of Representatives on Sunday, Deuba expressed concerns about the potential benefits for certain business groups under the new tax regime.

“There seems to be a policy in place that makes it easier for specific business groups to evade taxes, as inferred from some provisions in the budget and the Finance Bill presented in Parliament,” Deuba stated, adding, “I see no economic or administrative rationale for the proposed provision in Section 57(1) of the Income Tax Act. If there are issues, we can amend them through rules or directives.”
