Scrap dealers start street protests against Kathmandu metropolis

KATHMANDU: Scrap dealers have launched street protests against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, accusing the city administration of unfairly targeting their businesses.

The dealers took to the streets on, alleging that the municipality has started forcefully removing their scrap yards.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had decided to clear scrap yards within the Ring Road area.

The dealers claim that Mayor Balendra (Balen) Shah has ignored court orders and unjustly acted against them.

Despite a High Court order instructing not to remove the scrap dealers points, the city administration reportedly used bulldozers to demolish their sheds.

Additionally, various wards within the municipality have allegedly refused to renew the licenses for scrap businesses.

Protesting against what they perceive as an attempt to drive their trade out of the city, the scrap dealers have now resorted to street demonstrations.
