KATHMANDU: Dengue infection has spread across 71 districts in the country.
As of May 23, the infection had affected 57 districts, but it has now expanded to 71 districts.
Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population reported that a total of 1,130 people have been infected with the mosquito-borne virus across these 71 districts.
Last year, the infection count was significantly higher, with 51,143 cases recorded in all 77 districts.
In the Kathmandu Valley, 114 people have been infected with dengue in Kathmandu, 27 in Bhaktapur, and 18 in Lalitpur.
The dengue virus is primarily transmitted from person to person through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito.
Symptoms of dengue infection include high fever, headache, sore eyeballs, body pain, knee joint pain, and groin pain.
The Health Ministry has appealed to the public to take preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites.
Recommendations include using mosquito nets, wearing long-sleeved clothing, installing nets on windows and doors, and using mosquito repellents.
