ARGHAKHANCHI: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ stated that the ongoing economic reforms have instilled confidence in the private sector.

Speaking at the “Arghakhanchi Tourism Promotion Program for Economic Development, Tourism Promotion and Local Employment,” organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Arghakhanchi chapter in Sandhikharka on Monday, the Prime Minister highlighted the positive impact of gradual economic improvements.

He noted that the economic crisis until the previous year had resulted in a decline in public business fairs and festivals. However, the resurgence of such events is now viewed as a positive indicator of economic recovery, according to the Prime Minister.

During his address, Prime Minister Dahal informed that international financial institutions, including the World Bank, have acknowledged improvements in Nepal’s economic indicators. He urged the business community to work with confidence and emphasized that ministers are expected to strive for the best, with those failing to meet performance standards subject to removal.

Reflecting on his past experiences trekking in the Siddhara-Jaluke region in Arghakhanchi during the People’s War, the Prime Minister expressed the government’s optimism about the district’s touristic development. He commended the unity and cooperation observed among local political parties for the district’s development.

Dahal assured support from the federal government for strategic projects, including the Gachchhe-Bhaluwang road, and emphasized attention to the development of Sandhikharka-Sheetaganga, Bhumikasthan municipality, and Malarani-Chhatradev, and Panini rural municipalities.

Clearing any doubts about the government’s commitment to revitalizing the economy under his leadership, the Prime Minister highlighted improvements in foreign currency reserves, increased tourist arrivals, reduced bank interest rates, resolution of issues related to cooperatives and micro-finances, enhanced balance of payments and remittances, and a gradual rebound in the sluggish industry and business sector.

He referred to international organizations, including the World Bank, projecting further progress in Nepal’s economy in 2024 and emphasized the government’s efforts to achieve social justice, good governance, and prosperity in the past year.

Shifting focus to international relations, Prime Minister Dahal mentioned progress made in diplomatic arenas, citing visits to China, India, the World Food Summit, the United Nations General Assembly, COP28, and the visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres to Nepal. He expressed confidence that the country’s international image has been bolstered by these interactions.

Attendees at the event included Minister of State for Tourism Sushila Shreepali, former Deputy Speaker Pushpa Bhusal, former Minister for Energy Pampha Bhusal, Province Assembly member Ramji Ghimire, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) central president Bipul Pokhrel, and chiefs and deputy-chiefs from all local levels.
