KATHMANDU: Meetings of seven committees under the Federal Parliament are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, with discussions ranging from fiscal federalism and prison conditions to climate change and complaints against the Home Ministry.
The Finance Committee will discuss the work carried out so far by the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, its role in implementing fiscal federalism, challenges facing the commission and the status of implementation of its recommendations.
The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee will table and discuss the report of the “Study Subcommittee on the Human Rights Situation of Detainees and Prisoners in Various Prisons and Detention Centres.”
The Women and Social Affairs Committee will meet at 11 am at Singha Durbar to discuss the institutional status and monitoring findings concerning child homes, child correction homes, women’s safe shelter homes, old-age homes and other social organisations.
The committee has invited the Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, along with secretaries from the Home, Law and Education ministries and other concerned ministries, for the discussion.
Meanwhile, the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee will discuss the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill.
The committee will hold discussions on the bill with the Minister for Science and Technology and concerned government officials.
The Public Accounts Committee will discuss complaints related to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The committee has invited the Home Minister, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Nepal Police and Inspector General of the Armed Police Force for the discussion.
The Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee will discuss decisions and agreements reached at previous Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings, their implementation status and steps taken by the government to implement them.
The committee will also seek information from concerned government officials about Nepal’s preparations for participating in the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31).
