RAUTAHAT: Two of the three children who went missing while swimming in the Lal Bakaiya River in Rautahat have been found dead.
The bodies of 10-year-old Mohammad Ramtullah, son of Sheikh Kamar Alam of Laxminiya in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality-2, and 10-year-old Sabanam Khatun, daughter of Sheikh Osi Akhtar, were recovered on Wednesday morning.
According to the Area Police Office, Dewahi Gonahi, the bodies were found near the Jingadiya Bridge, around 1.5 kilometres from the incident site, at around 6:30 am.
The three children had gone swimming and bathing in the Lal Bakaiya River near Laxminiya settlement at around 2 pm on Tuesday when they were swept away and went missing.
The third child, 10-year-old Roushan Khatun, daughter of Sheikh Khursaid, remains missing.
Police Inspector Tej Prasad Bhattarai, chief of the Area Police Office, Dewahi Gonahi, said a search operation for the missing girl has been intensified.
A joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel has been mobilised for the search and rescue operation.
A nine-member diving and rescue team from Armed Police Force Nepal No. 11 Battalion Headquarters, Rautahat, has also been deployed to search for the missing child.
