Monsoon to become active in Kathmandu Valley from Saturday

KATHMANDU: This year’s monsoon is expected to become active in some parts of Bagmati Province, including the Kathmandu Valley, starting tomorrow, Saturday.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, although the monsoon has already entered the country via Koshi Province, it takes a few days to arrive in the Valley.

Meteorologist Saroj Pudasain explained that the delay in the monsoon’s arrival in the remaining parts of the country is due to the partial influence of westerly winds and a low-pressure system around the Bihar State of India.

While the monsoon typically spreads to western Nepal about a week after its arrival in the east, this year’s progression has been hampered by the low-pressure system in India.

The Division reported partly to generally cloudy weather in Karnali Province, as well as in the hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces, with partly cloudy to mainly fair weather in the rest of the provinces tonight.

Light to moderate thundershowers are expected in a few places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and in one or two places in the remaining parts of the country.
