2,925 candidates file nominations nationwide for House election



KATHMANDU: Candidate nomination filing for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 has been completed across the country. Political parties and independent candidates registered their nominations enthusiastically within the stipulated timeframe on Tuesday.

According to Election Commission Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, a total of 2,925 candidates have registered their nominations under the first-past-the-post electoral system. Of them, 336 candidates, or 11 percent, are women, while 2,589 candidates, or 88 percent, are men.

Election Commission data show that among the country’s 165 constituencies, Rupandehi Constituency No. 2 and No. 3 recorded the highest number of candidates, with 35 nominations each. Mustang saw the lowest number of candidates, with just eight nominations filed.

The commission also reported that 85 candidates are persons with disabilities, while 138 candidates are from marginalized regions.

As per the election schedule, the remaining procedures will be carried out sequentially. Complaints against registered candidates can be filed from 10 am to 3 pm on January 21 The commission will examine nomination papers and complaints from 3 pm on January 21 until 5 pm on January 22.

The final list of candidates will be published between 5 pm and 7 pm on January 22.

For this election, a total of 18,903,689 voters have been registered nationwide. The Election Commission has designated 10,967 polling stations and 23,112 polling centers across the country.
