Despite the increasing prevalence of such relationships, Nepal lacks specific laws and regulations governing them.

Advocate Bhattari highlights the growing number of youths involved in such relationships, particularly in urban areas, which often lead to various challenges.

In light of this, the petitioner urges the government to enact legislation addressing live-in relationships.

Additionally, the petition raises questions about the eligibility criteria for individuals entering such arrangements, emphasizing that unmarried individuals over the age of 18, as well as divorced, widowed, or single individuals of any gender, should be legally recognized for live-in relationships.

Furthermore, the petition underscores the need for a legal framework to govern the dissolution of such relationships, whether by mutual agreement or coercion.
