KATHMANDU: World Kidney Day is being observed today with a range of initiatives aimed at promoting kidney health.

Marked annually on the second Thursday of March in accordance with the English calendar, this day serves as a global platform to emphasize the significance of kidney health.

This year’s overarching theme revolves around ‘equal access to kidney treatment and safe medical practice.’

Various health organizations are kicking off with a rally from Ratnapark this morning.

The walk will culminate at Dasharath Stadium, where a friendly football match will be held featuring participants from diverse backgrounds including artists, journalists, philanthropists, doctors, and staff alongside a team of transplant recipients and organ donors.

Statistics reveal that one in every 10 individuals suffers from kidney disease.

World Kidney Day endeavors to raise awareness about crucial measures for identifying, treating, and preventing kidney diseases, given their prevalent occurrence worldwide.

The kidneys play a pivotal role in purifying blood and eliminating waste from the body.

Additionally, they regulate water balance, control blood pressure, and maintain electrolyte levels while contributing to the production of vitamin D and red blood cells.
