Task force formed to draft monsoon preparedness action plan

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has initiated preparations for the National Action Plan on Monsoon Preparedness and Response 2083.

An 18-member task force has been formed under the coordination of Joint Secretary Roshni Kumari Shrestha, chief of the Authority’s Policy, Planning and Monitoring Division.

Authority spokesperson Shanti Mahat said work on the plan has begun, with representatives from disaster-related federal ministries, departments, the Authority, and all three security agencies involved in the task force.

The action plan aims to coordinate federal, provincial, and local governments, security agencies, and partner organizations to effectively respond to potential monsoon-related disasters and minimize loss of life and property.

Task force member Ram Kumar KC, deputy secretary at the Nepal Electricity Authority, said members have been given one week to submit suggestions, adding that the plan will be finalized on time this year.

A follow-up meeting will be held next week to finalize key priorities after receiving inputs.

Earlier, Home Minister Sudan Gurung had directed authorities to ensure timely preparedness and strengthen disaster response capacity during a recent program at the Nepal Electricity Authority.
