KATHMANDU: The Janamat party, a component of the coalition government with the responsibility of the Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry, is preparing to quit the government.

According to sources, after receiving hints about the party’s potential exit from the coalition government, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has invited Chairman Dr. CK Raut for a discussion on Monday.

Speaking with Khabarhub on Sunday, Janamat Party Chair Raut stated that preparations have been made to step out of the government at any time.

“We are not greedy for power. We are ready to step out of the government if Prime Minister Dahal shows disinterest in incorporating us into power-sharing,” he said.

Dr. Raut did not participate in the coalition meeting held in Baluwatar on Sunday. He did not sign the joint appeal, issued after the coalition leader’s meeting, to cast a vote in favor of the coalition candidates in the January 25 National Assembly elections.

Raut also announced that his party would file its candidacy on its own in the forthcoming elections.

After the coalition refused to assign even one seat to Raut’s party in the upcoming election, relations between the Janamat party and the government are said to be sour.

Dr. Raut’s Janamat party, with six members in the House of Representatives, holds one seat in Prime Minister Dahal’s cabinet.
