Parliamentary committees to elect chairs today across 12 thematic panels



KATHMANDU: Meetings are being held today to elect chairpersons of 12 thematic committees under the Federal Parliament.

Of the total, 10 committees belong to the House of Representatives, while two are joint committees comprising members from both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, nominations have been filed for chairpersons in various committees.

In the House of Representatives, Krishna Hari Budhathoki has been nominated for the Finance Committee, while Sumnima Udas is the candidate for the International Relations and Tourism Committee.

Similarly, Rahbar Ansari has been nominated for the Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee, and Samiksha Baskota for the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee.

Hari Dhakal is the nominee for the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, while Bharat Bahadur Khadka has filed for the Public Accounts Committee.

For the remaining committees, Aakriti Awasthi has filed for the Women and Social Affairs Committee, Ashish Gajurel for the Infrastructure Development Committee, and Ashok Chaudhary for the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee.

The Education, Health and Information Technology Committee will see a contest between Ojashwi Sherchan of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Gurup Prasad Baral of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist).

Among the joint parliamentary committees, Bodhanarayan Shrestha has filed nomination for chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.

For the Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State, candidates include Ganesh Karki of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and Madan Kumari Shah of the Communist Party of Nepal.

The oath of office for the newly elected committee chairpersons is scheduled for 4:00 pm today.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal will administer the oath.
