Election Code of Conduct to take effect from Tuesday



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is all set to implement the Election Code of Conduct for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25 from Tuesday, January 16.

On Monday, the Commission made the decision to enforce the code of conduct from January 18 to January 28.

As per EC sources, the use of any public resources or assets by any political party or candidate, either in favor or against anyone, is prohibited during the code’s implementation period. The code of conduct also prohibits the use of government or public institutions or educational institutions for election-related propaganda or campaigning.

The Election Commission has further imposed restrictions on the production and use of materials displaying the election symbol of any party or candidate. The dissemination or sharing of materials influencing the election on social media, which can impact the election outcome, is not allowed. Additionally, central, provincial, and local government officials participating in election campaigns are barred from utilizing government resources and facilities during this period.

The National Assembly elections for 19 seats are scheduled for January 25.
