Westerly winds take over; transitions to post-monsoon

KATHMANDU: With the withdrawal of the monsoon on Saturday, the influence of westerly winds has spread across Nepal.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, westerly winds are currently having a moderate impact in the Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, and Karnali provinces, while their influence is partial in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Additionally, local atmospheric conditions contribute to this partial effect.

The monsoon, which entered Nepal from the eastern region on June 10, officially exited the eastern part of the country on Saturday (Octoer12).

Consequently, the influence of monsoon winds has now ended.

Meteorologists have indicated that the conclusion of the monsoon marks the official start of the dry season in Nepal, ushering in the post-monsoon period.

Meteorologist Raju Pradhananga stated that the post-monsoon season will last until November, followed by the onset of winter in December.

He noted that while significant rainfall is unlikely at this time, there is a possibility of light, scattered showers.
