KATHMANDU: Taxi drivers in the Kathmandu Valley staged a protest on Friday, claiming that their livelihoods are being threatened by ride-sharing services like Pathao.

The demonstration took place in the Koteshwar-Jadibuti area, where taxi drivers halted traffic to voice their demands.

They called for the closure of ride-sharing services and argued that vehicles with red number plates should be prohibited from carrying passengers.

Under the leadership of businessman Durga Prasai, the protesters blocked the road by placing a taxi on the beach road amidst the weeds.

The blockade lasted for a while before the police intervened, removed the taxi, and restored traffic flow.
