Narayangadh-Muglin road faces landslide risks in 25 spots

CHITWAN: The Division Road Office in Chitwan has identified 25 areas along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section as prone to landslides.

Chief of the Division Office, Ramesh Prasad Poudel, disclosed that four of these areas are categorized as high risk, while seven are deemed low risk.

The regions near Mauri Bridge, Namsi Bridge, Kalikhola, and Tuin Bridge pose particularly heightened risks of landslides.

To address this, an estimated Rs 520 million is earmarked for landslide control measures at Namsi, Kalikhola (rivulet), and Tuinkhola (rivulet) along the route.

Additionally, maintenance work is necessary at Gaighat, Dumre Bridge, Ghumaune, Simaltal, Jalbire, and Panchkilo, which face a lower risk of landslides.

Vehicular traffic along this road segment has faced disruptions over the past few years due to recurrent landslide incidents.

Sagar Karki, an engineer at the office, emphasized the installation of equipment at Seti Dobhan, Mauri Bridge, and Charkilo to mitigate potential soil erosion post-rainfall.

Meanwhile, Nature Base Solution is actively conducting landslide control studies using bio-engineering technology at Kerabari along the same road section.

The organization has urged the Department of Roads to conduct similar studies at 11 sites, including Khahare rivulet, Bhateriko Oralo, Gaighat, Setidobhan, Jalbire, Chhabiskeji (26 KG), and Charkilo areas along the route.
