Economic indicators showing positive trend: Prime Minister Dahal



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as ‘Prachanda,’ has highlighted the positive trajectory of the country’s economic indicators, citing consistent efforts made to enhance economic conditions.

In a statement made before seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Dahal asserted that he has been tirelessly working since the beginning to improve the economy, emphasizing the improvement in various economic indicators in the current situation.

“During the seven months of this fiscal year, the balance of payment has a reserve of 297 billion and 720 million. Foreign exchange reserves have surged by 19.9 percent, reaching nearly Rs 1 trillion and 845 billion,” the Prime Minister said.

He also noted a 1.8 percent reduction in the trade deficit, limited inflation at 5.1 percent in the seven-month period, and a 4.7 percent increase in loan disbursement.

While acknowledging achievements, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the need for additional efforts in domestic production, employment generation, capital expenditure, and public service delivery.

He emphasized the importance of making the administration mechanism efficient, removing procedural obstacles, and creating a conducive environment for the private sector.

The Prime Minister also announced progress in electricity trade agreements, indicating the potential signing of a tri-nation agreement to export up to 40 megawatts of power from Nepal to Bangladesh.

He expressed optimism about expanding electricity trade, not only with India but also with China.

Regarding global presence, Prime Minister Dahal mentioned Nepal’s role in climate justice and equality, citing UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ visit to Nepal and Nepal’s participation in COP-28 in Dubai, UAE.

Despite these achievements, he acknowledged the need for further work to meet the country’s requirements and potential.
