UML Chair Oli urges transparent approach to Transitional Justice

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Oli emphasized that the matter of transitional justice should not be prematurely declared resolved, particularly against the sentiments of the victims.

Addressing the Fourth National Conference of Human Rights Defenders organized by the Human Rights Alliance on Tuesday, Chairman Oli underlined the importance of fostering a cooperative relationship with the victims by ensuring transparency in activities related to transitional justice.

He accused Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba of lacking sincerity in resolving the transitional justice issue, contributing to its prolonged existence for over 18 years and exacerbating the sufferings of the victims.

Oli asserted that the UML government during his tenure had been earnestly addressing these concerns.

“The UML government had been sincerely working on the issues of transitional justice. We have been advocating for a victim-friendly approach in addressing this matter,” he stated, emphasizing the need to identify the truth first and settle the issue with the victims’ perspective in mind.
