KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has provided the candidates of the National Assembly (NA) election slated for January 25 with their election symbols.
As per EC spokesperson Shaligram Paudel, the symbols were distributed by the election offices in the provinces during the allocated time frame from 10 am to 1 pm today.
A formidable total of 51 candidates, representing eight political parties, are vying for victory in the impending election, having officially submitted their nominations on January 8.
Providing a geographical breakdown, Paudel disclosed that the distribution encompasses 5 candidates in Koshi Province, 5 in Madhes Province, 15 in Bagmati Province, 8 in Gandaki Province, and 18 in Lumbini Province.
In addition, Karnali Province and Sudurpashchim Province boast 5 candidates each. Collectively, 51 candidates have cemented their positions as contenders in the electoral race.
Among the diverse pool of candidates, 18 hail from the women’s category, 5 from the Dalit category, 8 serving as representatives from disabled or minority communities, and a substantial 20 from various other categories.
