BAGLUNG: Baglung has reported 18 casualties from monsoon-induced disasters over the past three months.
Since July 29, ten men and eight women have been killed in landslides and floods.
Of the total deaths, twelve occurred in Badigad Rural Municipality (six women and six men), four in Baglung Municipality (one woman and three men), and two in Galkot (one woman and one man).
District Police Office, Baglung’s police inspector, Pratap Paudel, stated that the majority of the casualties resulted from landslides burying homes.
Additionally, 22 people were injured in the disasters: seven in Badigad, one in Jaimani Municipality, and one in Bareng Rural Municipality.
An 11-year-old boy from Badigad Rural Municipality-10 remains missing following a landslide.
Approximately 80 families have been affected in Badigad alone, according to Rural Municipality Chair Gandaki Thapa Adhikari.
The total number of affected families across the district is estimated to be around 150.
Local representatives have called for support and cooperation for post-disaster management, citing insufficient local resources to effectively address the situation.
Ward number 10 in Badigad has been hit the hardest. The current monsoon season has seen rainfall levels exceed the national average, leading to unexpected casualties and damage.
“The entire Badigad is in shock,” said the Chair. “The monsoon havoc is not over as the rain continues. Many have been rendered homeless, many have lost relatives, and they are facing a great disaster. We are doing our best to console them during these hours of grief.”
