Indian Foreign Secretary Misri holds talk with Home Minister Lekhak

KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Bikram Misri, currently on a two-day visit to Nepal, met with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Monday morning.

The meeting, held at the Singha Durbar-based Home Ministry, focused on matters of bilateral interest and concerns, according to the Home Minister’s Secretariat.

“Nepal and India enjoy cordial relations,” the Minister noted during the meeting, expressing hope that these ties would be further expanded and consolidated during Foreign Secretary Misri’s term.

He acknowledged India as a significant partner for Nepal in security, infrastructure, energy, and water resources sectors, and thanked India for its contributions to enhancing the competency of Nepal’s security forces and infrastructure development.

On this occasion, the Home Minister assured that no activities against neighboring countries would be tolerated in Nepali territory.

“Nepal’s territory will not be used for any activities against its neighbors,” he emphasized.

He also pledged full security for Indian investments in Nepal and highlighted the importance of enhancing mutual coordination and collaboration to combat cross-border crime, including drug smuggling.

In response, the Foreign Secretary spoke of India’s support and cooperation in effectively managing borders, combating trans-border crimes, and ensuring the security of citizens in both countries.

He underscored the Government of India’s commitment to supporting the strengthening of Nepal’s security and immigration administration.

Wishing Home Minister Lekhak a successful term, the Foreign Secretary expressed hope that Nepal-India relations would continue to strengthen in the future.

Foreign Secretary Misri arrived on a two-day official visit, which began on Sunday, August 11, at the cordial invitation of Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal.
