Finance Minister faces criticism over economic challenges

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is under pressure as criticism grows over his handling of the economy.

Paudel, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and a Vice-chair of CPN-UML, is tasked with addressing the country’s economic slowdown and promoting development as per the seven-point agreement between UML and Nepali Congress.

When Paudel took office in July, he promised to revive the economy, create jobs, and build confidence in the private sector. “We will study all economic problems in-depth, break the cycle of despair, and move forward with hope,” he had said. However, five months into his tenure, his performance is being questioned by lawmakers, even from his own party.

Final phase of investigation against Rabi Lamichhane, Case must be filed within 10 days

Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is in the final stages of investigation over allegations of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.

After completing his statement in Parsa, Lamichhane was taken to Pokhara via Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Lamichhane, arrested on Kartik 2 in Kathmandu, has given statements in five districts: Kaski, Rupandehi, Chitwan, Kathmandu, and Parsa.

Rabi Lamichhane flown to Pokhara from Birgunj via Kathmandu

After providing his statement in the Sano Paila Cooperative fraud case in Birgunj, Parsa, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has been transferred to Pokhara.

Lamichhane, who is currently in the custody of the Parsa District Police, was flown to Pokhara via Kathmandu.

Earlier, he had been brought to Kathmandu from Simara, Bara, and now he has been sent onward to Pokhara.

Janakpur bowled out for 51 as Sudurpaschim claims victory

Janakpur Bolts suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Sudurpaschim Royals in their Nepal Premier League (NPL) match on Wednesday, marking the end of their unbeaten run.

Chasing a modest target of 124 runs set by Sudurpaschim at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Janakpur was bundled out for just 51 runs in 12.1 overs, losing by a staggering 72 runs.

This defeat also saw Janakpur’s unbeaten streak come to a halt.

Kathmandu Gurkhas secure 18-run victory over Lumbini Lions

In the second match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Wednesday, Kathmandu Gurkhas clinched an 18-run win against Lumbini Lions, who struggled with poor bowling.

Chasing a modest target of 104 runs after losing the toss, Lumbini collapsed to 85 all out in 10.2 overs.

Kathmandu’s bowler Dipesh proved pivotal in dismantling Lumbini’s top order. He dismissed both openers, Ashutosh Ghiriya and Arjun Saud, preventing them from reaching double digits.

Kathmandu sees record low of 3.9°C today

Kathmandu Valley has recorded its coldest temperature of the year, with the mercury dropping to 3.9 degrees Celsius this morning.

According to a bulletin from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division, the temperature was measured at 8:45 am today.

This marks a decrease from yesterday’s minimum temperature of 5.6°C.

Gold prices rise by Rs. 2,000 per tola

Gold prices in Nepal saw an increase today, with the price of fine gold rising by Rs. 2,000 per tola, reaching Rs. 154,200, up from Rs. 152,200 the previous day.

The price of Tejabi gold also rose, now standing at Rs. 153,500 per tola, compared to Rs. 151,500 per tola yesterday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.

This increase follows gold’s highest price of Rs. 171,000 per tola on October 31, 2024.
