Sarlahi section sees 90% progress in East-West electric railway project

BARAHATHAWA: Significant progress has been made in the construction of the East-West Electric Railway project in Sarlahi district, with 90% of the work completed.

This railway project is considered a national pride endeavor.

According to project information officer Engineer Bhuwaneshwor Yadav, the construction activities in the Sarlahi section have achieved 90% completion within the stipulated six-year contract period.

However, the opening of the 30-km track from Banke stream in the east to Bagmati River in the west is still underway.

Yadav mentioned that efforts to establish the railway base along the ongoing first-phase track of the project are nearing completion, thanks to the accelerated activities by the construction company.

Despite progress, certain areas have experienced delays due to issues with obtaining clearance from the Sagarmatha Forest Project and the Murtiya Forest Office.

These delays stem from disputes over compensation with farmers in Hariban municipality-5, resulting in stalled track opening activities and minimal progress in this section.

Engineer Yadav acknowledged the sluggish pace of construction in recent months.

The Project Office in Lalbandi revealed that the construction company is yet to receive payment for completed activities, further hindering progress.
